80s Fashion Trends

Fashion wasn’t its strongest point. As trends are recycled and decades revisited we can only hope that the 80s stays in the 80s, and spare ourselves from the embarrassment of oversized clothing and blinding colours. 80s fashion introduced hip hop culture, evolved punk fashion and the yuppie movement. On this 80s fashion hub you’ll see pictures and descriptions of 80s fashion and hair styles. Many of the 80s fashion sprung from American the UK subcultures that have had a great influence cultures around the world.

80s Punk Fashion:The 80’s saw the rise of the Punk era. Multicoloured Mohawks, bleached hair, short spiky hair, torn leather with chains, eye liner, spike collars and spike wrist bands. Punk is about rebelling against any and all social structures. Most of the extravagance of the era was with the aim to free the individual from the notion that everybody should look the same. Everyone was striving to free themselves from being sheep in the flock. This extreme counter culturism inspired shocking almost perverse 80s hair styles and trends: close pin piercings, shredded clothing, etc. 80s punk fashion is like nothing else.

80s Hip Hop Fashion:The 80s were the golden age of Hip Hop. 2017 Adidas Nmd R1 BB2363 R1 Women Purple Black Ireland Sale jump suits and shoes, multi fingered rings and thick gold chains. Hip Hop music, fashion and culture were called a fad throughout the eighties and part of the nineties. In the 80s Hip Hop was the loudest expression of African American subculture and Black Nationalism became increasingly influential in rap. The „hip pop“ era also saw the split between male and female hip hop fashion, which had previously been more or less similar. Women in hip hop had emulated the male tough guy fashions such as baggy pants and heavy work boots but added glamour with hoop earrings and lip gloss. Starter jackets, in addition, were also a popular trend in their own right during the late 1980s and early 1990s. A lot of 80s Hip Hop fashion became something of a status symbol, even today with famous rappers such as 50 Cent.

80s Pop Rock n Roll Fashion:Huge hair, platinum blonde hair, glitter, lots of make up, sexual ambiguity, tight jeans (bulging crotch). Male 80s „hair bands“ were all very feminine looking and driven to do nothing but get wasted and have sex. Hair bands drew as many women fans as male despite their teased hair, lipstick and womanizing. Back in the 80s, rock music was said to represent freedom of expression; the freedom to be yourself. These rock bands brought together all sorts of people, each one unique in their own little way, each one their own different person. During the 1980s, rock groups Poison, Motley Crue, and Guns N‘ Roses all demonstrated their own style of fashion to the world of music. They were always seen wearing black, tight leather pants, leather jackets, and tall, spiked leather boots, not to mention accessorizing the leather with shiny silver belt buckles, chains, and rings. Some also wore dark eye glasses and headbands, heavy makeup including dark eye liner, mascara with big, long, frizzy hair with bangs and tons of hairspray. This trend completely reversed itself in the early 1980s as both Air Jordan 4 Soar Blue 908497-006 Men Black Blue Outlet Ireland and women began to wear looser shirts and tight, close fitting trousers. The main fashion trends were:

80s Fashion Trends Big ShouldersShoulder padded women were prolific, giving the illusion of having broader and less sloping shoulders. The appearance of big shoulders was very popular during the 80s. To get this appearance, women would wear shirts or dresses that had shoulder pads. Although many people would agree that the look was slightly manly, it was very popular during this time. The reason was because women felt that shoulder pads got rid of their shoulder imperfections. Today, most fashion styles do not include shoulder pads.

80s Fashion Trends Leg WarmersThey might not have looked all that attractive, but Ill be darned if leg warmers didn’t live up to their name! They were a massive trend in the 80s and were worn with heels or pumps, skirts and leggings. Originally worn by dancers to keep their muscles from cramping after stretching, in the early 1980s leg warmers became a fad and wearing them was fashionable among teenage girls. Leg warmers became particularly popular in the early 80’s when ‚lets get physical‘ came out, and the influence of the films Fame and Flashdance as well as the concurrent aerobics craze.

80s Fashion Trends LeggingsWhen leggings became popular around 1982, they did so unobtrusively with timid gray, Cheap Air Jordan 5 136027-130 Unisex White Ireland and black leggings worn discreetly under skirts, dresses and even voluminous thigh length sweaters. Then someone cranked the heat up and we saw animal prints, paisley, lace, zebra, leopard and snakeskin patterns. When the leggings party was in full swing, they stopped at nothing: liquid leggings that resemble molten metals; fluorescent, painted on pants and bodysuit leggings. Life was spandex and lycra, and life was good. Today they have evolved from being an exercise necessity to popular clubbing apparel.

„Shoulder imperfections?“ I’ve never heard of this and I came of age in the 80s. People wearing shoulder pads (like they also did in the 40s and 50s, by the way) were usually trying to achieve a triangular silhouette, wide on top and narrow on the bottom. In fact, there was a lot of classic influence of the 40s and 50s in 80s fashion design. And not all 80s clothes were brightly colored. Some people were Deathrockers (Goths) who went for more monochromatic ensembles or Ska fans who were into 2 tone Mod styles. The 80s were the last innovative decade for fashion. At least people weren’t as scared to try something a little different then.

Hopes fade for Suu Kyi deal as Myanmar hastens presidential vote

NAYPYIDAW: Myanmar’s parliament will bring forward a vote for the next president to March 10, it was announced Tuesday (Mar 1), Adidas NMD S76007 Unisex Milk White Ireland leaving little time for Aung San Suu Kyi to strike a deal to let her take the top office.

The democracy icon is currently banned from becoming president under the junta era constitution.

Since her National League for Air Jordan 5 Low Premium ASG 819951-003 Men Grey White Ireland Democracy (NLD) party’s crushing victory at elections in November, Buy Adidas Nmd XR1 BB2375 Unisex Green Ireland Suu Kyi has been locked in negotiations with the powerful military in hopes of unblocking her path to the presidency.

But news that the presidential vote has been brought forward by one week raises serious doubt about any deal.

„We are going to hold the meetings. for MPs to be able to elect the president and vice presidents on March 10, Thursday, a week earlier than was previously announced,“ Win Khaing Than, Adidas Country OG Unisex White Green Outlet Ireland speaker of Myanmar’s combined houses of parliament, told lawmakers on Tuesday (Mar 1).

The handover from a half century of military rule to a popularly elected government has been complex and drawn out.

It is still unclear who will take over on March 31 from President Thein Sein, the former general who has steered dramatic reforms since 2011.

In typically cryptic comments on the leadership issue, NLD party spokesman Win Htein said the party stood behind an eventual Suu Kyi presidency.

„Aung San Suu Kyi must become the president. it just depends on whether it is earlier or later,“ he told reporters in the capital Naypyidaw.

The current constitution bars those with foreign children and spouses from the top office. Her late husband was British, as are her two sons.

Suu Kyi has pledged to rule „above“ whoever succeeds Thein Sein.

Myanmar’s powerful military is still allocated a quarter of all parliamentary seats and Air Jordan 5 Low Premium ASG 819951-003 Men Grey White Ireland will choose one of three candidates for president.

The other two candidates will be chosen by the elected members of the lower and upper houses, which are dominated by the NLD.

The new president will emerge from a vote by the combined houses.

With its parliamentary bloc, the military holds an effective veto on constitutional change and will also retain other major political and economic powers.

Schools put tablets on stationery lists

Children are increasingly being asked by schools to take digital devices to their lessons, Cheap Adidas Fashion 777 Men Black Ireland amid warnings that the trend is piling more financial pressure on parents.St Paul’s Collegiate in Hamilton has made tablet computers compulsory for its year 9 students, while Orewa College has made internet capable devices mandatory for all its year 8, 9 and Air Jordan 10 Rio 310805-019 Men Grey Blue Ireland students.Orewa College principal Kate Shevland said such devices were „absolutely“ the future and her school’s push had wider backing from students‘ parents.“It is quite a big commitment for schools which is why we have had quite a lot of interest in what we have done.“The school does not provide a lease to buy arrangement on devices but guides parents in the direction of suppliers. Last year the decile 9 school provided devices for six of its 320 year 9 students on a loan scheme. But Darryl Evans of the Mangere Budgeting Service said digital devices added extra financial pressure on parents already burdened with costs for uniforms, Cheap Adidas Fashion 777 Men Black Ireland shoes, stationery and fees often for more than one child.“The problem is parents have so many other things they need to buy at this time of year, it’s problematic and it’s not going to get any easier.“However, Auckland Grammar School principal Tim O’Connor saw no reason to make digital devices mandatory for his students.“It’s a specific style of education and we would like to think however we incorporate smart devices or digital technology it would really be about using it as a tool in amongst our current practices.“They have so much access to it outside of seven 40 minute lessons of the day that not having it for Nike Air Max 90 Ultra Essential 819474-008 Men Black White Yellow Ireland Sale each one of those lessons may actually make them more focused on the lessons at hand.“A report released in December by Parliament’s education and science committee recommended that it consider introducing a policy that every student have access to a digital device for learning.Principals Association president Patrick Walsh said government intervention would be necessary for „priority learners“, mainly Maori and Pacific Island children in low decile schools who will find digital devices hugely expensive.“They would benefit the most from the issuing of a laptop or an iPad because it’s those homes that often don’t have a ready supply of books and learning material“.He said Maori and Pasifika parents often didn’t have well developed skills in IT so if children brought home an iPad or laptop it would also provide a learning opportunity for the parents.A Ministry of Education spokesman said the Government had invested $1.5 billion in ultrafast broadband and set up the Network for Learning to provide ultrafast broadband to 97.7 per cent of all New Zealand schools. Remaining schools in some remote rural areas will be given access to satellite services.Decile 1 rides digital waveChildren in some of Auckland’s poorest suburbs are riding the digital wave thanks to a programme providing rent to buy laptops for students.Russell Burt, principal of the decile 1 Point England school, said 700 Google chromebooks will shortly be distributed among 11 schools around the Tamaki Glen Innes area.Mr Burt said all of these schools had benefited from the Maniakalani Education Trust, which provides a rent to own arrangement where parents pay $3.50 a week for their children’s laptops over a three year period. The trust also expects to complete the Tamaki Learning Network, which will provide free wireless internet access for children on the programme.

id=“article-body“ class=“row“ section=“article-body“> Scientists discovered how hungry deep-sea creatures can be when offered a free alligator meal.

Lumcon Alligators don’t typically swim, or die, in the ocean. But researchers dropped three of them, dead ones, underwater to see how deep-sea creatures would react to finding a new and unusual food source.

The dead-alligator experiment was aimed at better understanding underwater food systems. Edibles like phytoplankton and https://www.behance.net/gallery/93836039/Dao-Han-The-Tin-Dung-Gia-Re-Tai-Ha-Noi other plant life don’t exist on the deep-sea floor, so dwellers down there must sustain themselves by eating „marine snow“ — animal waste, scraps of decaying creatures and other organic debris that drifts from above.

Because alligators sometimes find themselves in ocean waters, searching for new food sources or flushed there by a hurricane, the scientists wanted to see if deep-sea creatures would nibble on the dead gators, or ignore them. The researchers, Craig McClain and Clifton Nunnally from Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (Lumcon), share the surprising results of their experiment in a newly published study in the open-access science journal PLOS One.

The scientists placed three dead gators 6,600 feet down in the Gulf of Mexico and made their biggest find when they came back to their last dead alligator 51 days later. It was eaten completely down to its skeleton, except for a mysterious brown fuzz left on the bones.

Scientists found brown fuzz on one of the alligator skeletons happens to be bone-eating worms.

Lumcon DNA studies of the brown fuzz revealed it was a newly discovered species of bone-eating worm from the Osedax genus. This is the first time any Osedax species have been spotted in the Gulf of Mexico, the researchers say.

„We confirmed it as a new species through comparing the DNA of the animals that we collected to the DNA of known Osedax species,“ River Dixon told Gizmodo. (Dixon is a Ph.D. Fellow in the McClain Lab at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and a co-author of the new study.) „We found that the DNA was different enough to qualify our samples as a new species.“

The other two dead alligators offered up some interesting findings too. One was devoured in less than 24 hours by giant isopods, which are known for going without food for years.

The scientists found that another one of their alligator carcasses went missing altogether. On further investigation, the scientists discovered drag marks where they’d left the gator.

„Whatever did that had to be huge. The carcass and weight combined to be over 36 kilograms (80 pounds), and its shape and length made it quite unwieldy,“ Dixon told Gizmodo. „With some calculations we were able to figure out that the bite strength needed to cut cleanly through our rope was consistent with that of a large shark.“

Why the Proms are losing their director Roger Wright

On 18 July the Royal Albert Hall opens its doors for the annual BBC Promenade Concerts, known simply as the Proms: two months of world class classical music at which standing places cost just 5 a pop. There is nothing else quite like it either here or abroad. Once you’ve experienced the queues of promenaders snaking down Prince Consort Road with sandwich boxes and comfy shoes, sampled the relaxed but excited atmosphere inside the hall, and witnessed evenings as thrilling as last year’s Ring cycle, when thousands listened rapt to Wagner’s gigantic tetralogy at the feet of the conductor Daniel Barenboim the chances are you’ll be hooked too.

This year’s season nevertheless marks the end of an era: Roger Wright, the director of the Proms for seven years and controller of Radio 3 since 1998, now ends his tenure as both. His successors the role is to be split have yet to be appointed.

The news of Wright’s departure broke in a startling way, in an announcement from Aldeburgh Music, the umbrella organisation behind the Aldeburgh festival and more, that he is to become their new chief executive. The day after this was revealed came an announcement from the BBC that Bob Shennan, the controller of Radio 2, is being appointed as the corporation’s overall director of music. The timing struck many as intriguing. Restructuring is inevitable at the BBC in the current climate, but no one with as fine a track record as Wright’s is likely to be too happy if someone is brought in over his or her head. Meanwhile, whoever takes over Wright’s roles will undoubtedly have to implement funding cuts and deal with whatever may emerge from the new licence fee settlement in 2016.

Wright bids farewell to the Proms after the opening night. „Elgar’s The Kingdom will be the last music I hear as Proms director,“ he says. „I’m sad to be leaving the team, of course, but to have had the fun of working with them, and knowing the Proms are in such safe hands, is terrific.“

He does not mince his words, though, when it comes to uncertainties regarding the future. „The Proms has been singled out for reinvestment, so I think there’s a real understanding of their importance, right at the top of the organisation,“ he says. „But the biggest question is the future of BBC funding overall. We don’t know what the licence fee settlement is going to be in 2016 17 onwards. You can’t separate out the future of anything to do with the BBC from those decisions. It’s a question that’s going to arrive very quickly indeed.“

Music lovers not only in Britain but around the world are hoping against hope that this recognition of the Proms‘ significance will protect them during such changes. For generations of music lovers, summer without the Proms has been as unthinkable as Halloween without pumpkins or Christmas without carols. This year marks the series‘ 120th anniversary; it has been run by the BBC since 1927 and resident at the Royal Albert Hall since 1941. And it is not as if the BBC has not made a huge effort to extend its reach. Indeed, never before has the Proms been quite as accessible as it is now.

If you can’t get there in person, every concert is broadcast live on Radio 3, and there are plentiful TV broadcasts and Buy Air Jordan 8 832821-030 Men White Gold Online facilities to let you enjoy performances by a dizzying range of musicians, from the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle to the Pet Shop Boys. The latter are creating a new work for orchestra and electronics that pays tribute to Alan Turing, the Bletchley Park computer pioneer who took his own life 60 years ago after a 1952 conviction for homosexual activity destroyed both his personal life and his career. A posthumous royal pardon was granted to Turing last December.

There is much to live up at the Proms, especially after the last two years. In 2012 it was absorbed into the Cultural Olympiad and featured some extraordinary moments whether the arrival of the British athletes at the festivities of the Last Night, or Barenboim walking into the Olympic opening ceremony, as one of eight great humanitarian figures carrying the Olympic flag, straight from conducting a Prom.

Last year’s Wagner bicentenary season included concert performances of no fewer than seven of his operas, featuring starry casts that could turn the priciest festivals green with envy. And the Last Night proved a landmark, being conducted for the first time by a woman, Marin Alsop, her podium festooned with pink balloons. That occasion was double edged since, as Alsop pointed out in her speech, it was hard to believe such firsts were still waiting to happen.

Staging these festivals required both vision and chutzpah, and paid off handsomely in terms of audience figures: last year’s average attendance saw the Albert Hall 93 per cent full, and 57 of 75 main concerts sold out completely. But without quite such special events to raise the roof, Nike Air Max LD-Zero 911180-002 Women White Grey Silver Ireland Sale can this year’s programme match that success?

The agenda contains just about enough celebration to keep the mood upbeat. The 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss’s birth is marked with three of the composer’s finest operas: Salome, featuring the Swedish star soprano Nina Stemme (last year’s Ring cycle Brnnhilde), followed 24 hours later by Elektra, in which Strauss creates the ultimate in hair raising musical Expressionism. Earlier in the season, Glyndebourne brings in the cast and crew of its controversial production of Der Rosenkavalier for a semi staged concert performance.

The World Cup may or may not have sparked this year’s focus on international orchestras from sometimes surprising places. A record number of them are converging on London, many demonstrating the rapidly burgeoning interest in Western classical music in developing countries. Therefore, alongside heavyweight visitors such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, a number of ensembles are making their first ever visits to the Proms, among them orchestras from Turkey, Iceland, China, South Korea, Lapland, Australia and Qatar.

The latter is a case in point. The Qatar Philharmonic has existed for only seven years, and its music director is Han Na Chang, the former cello prodigy and proteg of Mstislav Rostropovich, who has reinvented herself as a force to be reckoned with on the podium. The orchestra, Chang says, includes musicians of some 30 different nationalities, and its mission statement includes assisting Qatar „on its journey from carbon economy to knowledge economy by unlocking human potential“. Their Prom will include a work by the Iranian born composer Behzad Ranjbaran. „The musicians are incredibly excited it’s such a privilege for us to be making our Proms debut,“ Chang says.

Ironically, she remarks that „the women conductors issue“ was scarcely mentioned when she took up her post; in a country where the orchestral field is so new, Western traditional notions of the dominant male maestro have not had a chance to become ingrained. She is one of four Nike Air Max LD-Zero 911180-002 Women White Grey Silver Ireland Sale conductors at this year’s Proms, along with Sian Edwards, Rebecca Miller and the returning Alsop which is not a lot, but a gentle shift in the right direction.

Women are relatively well represented among this year’s composers, notably with a Proms debut for Roxanna Panufnik, a new BBC commission by Judith Weir, London premieres for Sally Beamish and Helen Grime and works by Unsuk Chin and Dobrinka Tabakova. Parity for women composers and conductors remains a long way off, but these are noteworthy steps nonetheless.

Commemoration rather than celebration is the order of the day where the music of the First World War is concerned. The tragedy of war has inspired numerous musical masterpieces, and the Proms, besides scheduling some of the most famous, such as Britten’s War Requiem, is also airing rare gems such as the Elegy for Strings in Memoriam Rupert Brooke by the Australian composer FS Kelly, who died at the Battle of the Somme, and songs by the much loved poet and composer Ivor Gurney. One Prom is themed around Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse, with a visit from the National Theatre’s Handspring Puppets.

British music has long been an enthusiasm of Wright’s and beyond the works associated with the First World War there is plenty of it to enjoy, including the Violin Concerto by EJ Moeran, a surprise recent hit in the classical charts. The range of UK composers extends from Elgar and Walton to the gritty modernism of Sir Harrison Birtwistle and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who both turn 80 this year.

It has not escaped the notice of the Twitterverse, though, Cheap Adidas Nmd XR1 BB1967 Primeknit Unisex White Ireland that what the BBC Proms seems to celebrate above all this year is, well, the BBC. Quite a few events draw upon the broadcaster’s wider brand, including a Sports Prom and a CBeebies Prom offering the under fives an early experience in concert going. Traditionalists have predictably been snorting about such things to say nothing of the bile that still greets the occasional presence of pop musicians in the country’s premier classical festival.

But contrary to those critical of apparent self aggrandisement by the BBC, Wright says that he sees the trend as „hugely positive“ in terms of reaching new audiences. „After all,“ he points out, „it’s the BBC licence fee payer who pays for the Proms. The range of the audience becomes greater and greater the more we can play to different audiences. The Sports Prom is a great example: for a Prom to be live on Radio 5 Live for the first time is a really big deal, as is the late night ‚Battle of the Bands‘, looking back to the Swing era of the 1930s and 40s, which is on Radio 2. It’s always been the agenda to reach new audiences for classical music. That’s absolutely what the Proms do.“

For the moment, it’s time to put any anxiety about the future aside and get ready to enjoy the music. All you need are open ears, an open mind and comfortable shoes.

Smells like tween spirit

Nikki Webster is now 17, but is she acting her age? Craig Mathieson reports.

In an empty auditorium at the Yarraville Club, Nikki Webster is singing to her past. Standing on stage, running through Somewhere Over the Rainbow as part of her pre show soundcheck, the 17 year old pop star is clad in Adidas Yeezy 350 Boost Kanye AQ2659 Unisex Black Ireland: leather jacket, jeans and boots.

A few metres to her right, on a large video screen, is an image of herself as a 13 year old, all perfect teeth and an explosion of pink. She’s older now but her image is still the sweetly precocious girl thrust into the public eye at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

It’s the last day of the Victorian leg of Webster’s latest national tour, which has taken in locations from Ballarat to Ferntree Gully. She hits the road during school holidays; shows are at either 11am or 2pm sometimes both and feature Webster singing, in a strong voice for her size, over a recorded backing track while four dancers Nike Roshe Run Flyknit Men Green White Sale Ireland through choreographed routines behind her.

It’s a sturdy business framework. Nikki Webster is already a brand name. She’s released three albums, appeared in musicals and now has a signature clothing range. A new line, designed by Webster, appears every two months, in competition with the range by America’s titans of tween, 18 year old twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

The tween market is girls aged eight to 12 and it’s expanding rapidly as they flex their nascent consumer power and parents happily acquiesce. Tween is the gateway to teen, a steeping stone between Hi 5 and Justin Timberlake. It’s G rated pop and angst free celebrities. It’s goofy shows on the Nickelodeon channel and adventure filled movies where a first kiss and a moped ride with a sweet boy are the plot’s pay off. The Olsen Twins, Hillary Duff and Amanda Bynes are the American figureheads. Webster is the Australian pretender seeking parity.

But while her American contemporaries are trying to age their following, ushering them into adolescence, Webster appears to be operating in reverse. At 17, she’s reading Tim Winton’s Cloudstreet as part of year 12 English and will soon be old enough to drink, drive and vote, but she’s actively targeting a younger audience. Her new album, Let’s Dance, which features six Buy Adidas Superstar New Adidas Superstar Skull Head 2017 New Style Green Gold Online tracks and six standards, is recorded in a somewhat anodyne manner and regresses from the pop beat of 2001’s Follow Your Heart and 2002’s Bliss. It’s lighter, if that’s possible.

„I have younger supporters who are between three and six, up to teenagers and then parents and grandparents,“ notes Webster. „It’s not a niche market, it’s quite broad.“

Her market laps her up, and spends up. At the Yarraville show, mum Elsa Gorman, of Hoppers Crossing, forks out about $100 on tickets and merchandise for her three young daughters. „My girls have got bags and purses and CDs. They’re moving towards the clothing line as well,“ she says. Most in the crowd of 200 are under 10 but they’re well versed in Webster’s product range and even have ideas on how it should develop. „More clothes and shoes,“ suggests nine year old Bianca Rook from Newport, clutching her mother’s hand.

For many of Webster’s fans, this is the first time they’ve been to a concert. They sit cross legged on the floor at the foot of the stage, while their various guardians congregate further back on rows of seating, taking advantage of the free tea and coffee before they’re dragged to the merchandise desk for further purchases. Stacked with T shirts, Let’s Dance, posters and faux Access All Areas passes, it’s staffed by Webster’s older brother, Scott, and her mother, Tina, a bustling, attentive presence who also serves as her daughter’s costume mistress during the show and generally keeps a watchful eye on proceedings.

The show is loud, bright and without spontaneity. One father manages to work his way through several chapters of Michael Moore’s Stupid White Men while it unfolds. The kids yell and clap when they sense they should, standing up to learn various dances when told to. The children watch Webster and the parents watch their children. There are 12 songs, six costume changes („Velcro, that’s the key,“ says Tina) and it’s permeated with an innocent excitement. It’s a coaching clinic for the Celebrity Age.

Afterwards, her cheeks still flushed, Webster emerges and sits down at the merchandising desk, where she signs everything presented to her, poses for photos and never, ever lets her smile slip. She’s indomitable. At larger gigs, Webster signs for hours on end.

So why is she still singing for 10 year olds?

„I love it. It’s great fun. There are all these people working with me and we’re a great team,“ she enthuses, after the room finally clears.

„The shows are generally sold out and the audiences are full on. It’s a really interactive show and a really positive one.“

Does Nikki Webster ponder the future? How does she think she will change as she ages even more? „When you look at people like Britney (Spears), she was a young star and she’s grown up and made that change.

„A lot of people say she’s gone too far, but I don’t think I’ll be like that. Not now. I’m happy where I am now and I’m comfortable with myself and with my body. It’s also different for me because I do look young, so I suppose I’ll wait a few more years before I make that big jump.

„Obviously there’ll be subtle changes along the way because my body is changing, but the big changes are yet to come.“

She listens to Christina Aguilera, Usher and Outkast and talks about her career with a tactician’s eye. She’s ambitious („You have to be, otherwise you just won’t get anywhere,“ she says without pause) and determined to build her following. When she finishes high school at the end of this year she won’t be thinking about university.

Doesn’t she want to schedule a rebellious teenage phase? „I’m not the rebellious type. If I locked myself in my room instead of going on stage I’d just be wondering if people were screaming my name. I’m doing what I like to do and to me that’s normal. It’s a dream come true. It’s my life. And my job.“

Webster is tiny for her age she admits she could still pass for 13 if she wanted and with her shiny ringlets and petite features, she looks like a perfectly groomed lure for her demographic. But she’s quick to gently refute any suggestion that she’s manufactured for mass consumption. She stays on message during our interview in a manner that would do a government minister proud, and says she sees the good in nearly everything and measures her achievement through the feedback of her fans.

„It’s quite amazing. I’m really happy where I am.“

She says she is not scripted or controlled.

„I’ve never had media training and I never wanted to do that. I never wanted to be scripted, although a lot of people do write about me being scripted and being propped up and told what to say. I just talk freely.

„Everything I’ve done to date and everything I’ll do in my life is what I’ve chosen to do. Nothing has been dictated to me. I love talking, I’m a chatterbox.
